Roofing in Oxford: High-quality refurbishment of roof dormers

Project Overview

The property’s roof and dormers were in poor condition, with significant water ingress in multiple areas. We began by carefully stripping back the old slate, felt, and battens, preparing the roof for a complete refurbishment.

The Process

• Re-Felting & Re-Battening: The front side of the property was refelted and rebattened to provide a strong foundation.
• New Lead Valleys: We installed four new lead valleys to improve water drainage.
• Re-Slating: The roof was then reslated using durable Chinese slate, ensuring a robust and weather-resistant finish.
• Ridge Line & Dry Ridge System: We re-bedded and pointed the main ridge line, while a new dry ridge system was installed on the two dormers for added durability.
• Chimney Repair: The chimney received much-needed attention. We removed the old lead flashings and replaced them with new Code 4 Lead. The chimney was also repointed and relaunched to protect it from further water damage.
• Dormer Refurbishment: The dormers were stripped back to the rafters and reboarded. New felt and lead flashings were installed to prevent leaks. Finally, we applied fresh white PVC cladding, giving the dormers a sleek, modern look.
