Project Overview

The property’s roof and dormers were in poor condition, with significant water ingress in multiple areas. We began by carefully stripping back the old slate , felt, and battens, preparing the roof for a complete refurbishment.

The Process

Re-Felting & Re-Battening : The front side of the property was refelted and rebattened to provide a strong foundation.
New Lead Valleys: We installed four new lead valleys to improve water drainage.
Re-Slating: The roof was then reslated using durable Chinese slate, ensuring a robust and weather-resistant finish.
Ridge Line & Dry Ridge System: We re-bedded and pointed the main ridge line, while a new dry ridge system was installed on the two dormers for added durability.
Chimney Repair : The chimney received much-needed attention. We removed the old lead flashings and replaced them with new Code 4 Lead. The chimney was also repointed and relaunched to protect it from further water damage.
Dormer Refurbishment: The dormers were stripped back to the rafters and reboarded. New felt and lead flashings were installed to prevent leaks. Finally, we applied fresh white PVC cladding, giving the dormers a sleek, modern look.

Before we started the slates were damaged and rotten with some of the rafter also rotten all the way through!

Due to the felt not running into the gutter there was a heavy water ingress getting into the property causing a lot of damage to the plaster and paint.

They also had a lot of missed mortar in between a lot of the brickwork on the side elevation of the property which was also causing damp and other issues.

We completely stripped the roof back to the rafters and had to cut some new rafters to fit into place, once this was completed we re felt and battened the property and re slated with brand new Spanish slates and ridges.

Once this was completed we repointed the side of the property.

In our most recent job, we encountered an old lead roof that was leaking, primarily due to the deteriorating felt that was situated behind the lead.

To address this issue effectively, we opted to completely replace the roof. Our team diligently removed the old materials, added furrings and reboarding for enhanced structural support, and expertly installed a brand new PVC membrane. This comprehensive approach not only rectified the leaks but also ensured the durability and longevity of the roof for years to come.

New Spanish Slate Roof

A new roof, complete with new Spanish slate

This is our most recent slate re-roof project, and it was a much-needed intervention for the property. The roof was in a sorry state, with damaged and worn slates, some of which were slipping out due to previous poor craftsmanship. Not only that, but the old bitumen felt was failing to properly direct water into the gutter, resulting in internal property damage.

To set things right, we began by meticulously removing all old slates, felt, and battens. We then proceeded to re-felt and batten the entire area, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roofing materials. As we progressed, we strategically staggered the battens to optimize structural integrity. The installation of fresh Spanish slates and modern ridges transformed the roof, providing both durability and aesthetic appeal. Additionally, we added a bonding gutter to further enhance the roof's longevity.

Completing the project with finesse, we meticulously rebedded and pointed the ridge line, resulting in a polished finish that not only improved the property's appearance but also ensured its protection for years to come.
